The 16th China Mortar Zhenjiang Summit Forum, hosted by China Mortar Network, was grandly held at Jiuhua Jinjiang International Hotel in Zhenjiang City from December 12th to 14th, 2020. The conference focused on popular materials in the market such as lightweight plastering gypsum and gypsum-based self-leveling, covering issues from formula design to production control and actual construction one by one. It was full of valuable information and the atmosphere was lively.

The topic of the presentation by Yang Jiaguo, the technical director of Zhimeitang, is “High Cost-Performance Mixed Gypsum Calcination Technology and Its Application in Plastering and Self-leveling”. The content was mainly divided into three aspects: First, Director Yang systematically introduced the definition and history of mixed gypsum, explicitly stating that the development direction of gypsum-based building materials will gradually shift to phosphogypsum-based, and the application of sulfur and phosphorus mixed calcined gypsum will become one of the mainstream, but phosphogypsum needs to be purified by impurity removal or old phosphogypsum that has been piled up for many years. The main advantages of mixed gypsum are as follows: (1) Reducing the impurity content of a single gypsum and improving the comprehensive utilization level of gypsum resources; (2) Prevent the failure of the final setting of the single gypsum and reduce the risk of hollowing and cracking; (3) Improve the color of gypsum and make it more beautiful after hardening; (4) Significantly reduce costs and create competitiveness and value for users. Then Director Yang Jiaguo shared the twelve-word policy of Zhimeitang's mixed gypsum calcination process: “Two grinding and one calcination, front and back homogenization, impurity removal and purification”, and set clear indicators for the technical requirements of mixed calcined gypsum. The report also presented the crystal states of various gypsum captured by the polarizing microscope in Zhimeitang's laboratory, providing an intuitive explanation of the reasons for the strength of phosphogypsum, desulfurized gypsum and mixed gypsum. Finally, Mr. Yang introduced the application of mixed gypsum in lightweight plastering and self-leveling, as well as the main problems faced by the rapid development of gypsum-based thick self-leveling. At the end of the speech, the audience burst into thunderous applause. Many friends said they had benefited a lot, gained a comprehensive understanding of mixed gypsum and broadened their horizons.

Zhimeitang also set up a booth outside the venue. The booth was crowded with representatives of various enterprises and industry elites who stopped to discuss and exchange advanced self-leveling technology with Zhimeitang's technical engineers. They were particularly fond of the exquisite self-leveling sample blocks on the booth and hoped to further cooperate with Zhimeitang on self-leveling technology.

The history of gypsum-based building materials in modern China is not short, but large-scale application has only occurred in recent years. Why is there such a big development now? Because our living standards have truly improved, we have the conditions to pursue a more environmentally friendly and better life, only in times of prosperity can we enjoy nobility! It is the cold of the year, and it is the light snow in Zhenjiang. Between the green and white, it is a feast for the eyes. I have also made many new friends and returned with a full load. During the trip to Zhenjiang, I deeply felt that mortar is developing, technology is advancing, knowledge is being updated, and in 2021, mortar in China will be even better!
